Why does the jaw become wider?

The bulging of the lower face is an anatomical condition, but it can also be caused by frequent tension of the large masseter muscle. It most often occurs in situations of stress, internal tension or mental overload, but it can also be the result of intense exercise such as bodybuilding.

Constant tension in the jaw widens the lower face and gives the face a more masculine appearance, which causes significant aesthetic changes, disrupting facial harmony and the feminine features and contours.

However, not only does it affect our appearance, it is also often linked to nocturnal teeth grinding, which can compromise the health of the jaw joints, teeth, gums and masseter muscles. It can also be a trigger for recurrent neck and headaches and/or migraines.

If the widened jaw is caused by tension in the masseter muscle, the most effective solution is Botox.
