Scar treatment

Scars can form on the skin as a result of injuries, physical trauma, inflammation, acne or surgery. There are several forms of scar treatment, depending on the type of scar being treated. By choosing the right treatment, you can improve or even make the troublesome skin lesion undetectable.

How do scars form?

Scars of various sizes and origins mirror the effect of external physical influence, inflammations and surgeries. The formation happens during the wound healing process when a less-elastic scar tissue takes the place of normal skin. The scar tissue is made of collagen fibers (an important, resilient element of the connective tissue) which contract the edges of the wound and fill out gaps and cracks of skin. If the injury occurs in the superficial, epidermal layer then scar formation less likely happens. However if the damage branches out into the dermis, it’s common to develop an aesthetically annoying scar.

The regenerative ability differs from one person to another: the age, health state, placement of the scar and the quality of the healing process are either important influential factors.

The scarring mechanism can last for years and the surface changes continuously. At first it’s red colored and may be prominent, but at last, slowly gets shrinked and whiter.

During the scarring mechanism, several types of scars can develop. The reason is, that after an injury and skin damage over- or underproduction of tissue particles happens.

  • Atrophic scars form because of the compromised process of tissue regeneration and the loss of the supporting adipose tissue. The skin cannot reproduce the collagen and the subcutaneous fat, that’s why the scar appears as an indentation on the skin surface. The source of these kinds of conditions are mostly chicken pox or severe acne.
  • The hypertrophic scars develop because of the overproduction of the extracellular matrix, which causes typical prominences on the site of the wound. These are often rigid, hardened and red, and sometimes painful. These scars don't overgrow beyond the original wound edges and can be caused by injuries, accidents or burn injuries.
  • In case of keloid scars, the scar tissue overruns the wounds' original region. These kinds of scars are darker than their surroundings and have a thick, irregular appearance. The condition can be accompanied by pain and itching. Mainly their development follows the injury several months later.

What are your options for effective scar treatment?

Morpheus8 fractional radiofrequency micro needling – tightening treatment Morpheus8 fractional radiofrequency micro needling – tightening treatment

Morpheus8 fractional radiofrequency micro needling – tightening treatment

Favorable attributes of radiofrequency microneedle treatment include serving spectacular and perceptible improvement on appearance and skin texture in a very short time period without plastic surgery. Morpheus 8 uses micro needling therapy combined with radiofrequency technology. While penetrating the skin surface, special microneedles create puncture channels in the epidermis and dermis also, in order to lead down electromagnetic energy precisely where it’s needed. This electromagnetic field generates the thermal heating of the dermis and promotes neocollagenesis, elastin formation and angiogenesis as parts of the healing process. Thanks to this method the skin structure rebuilds itself and the scars get faded.

Laser scar treatment

According to the type and state of scars, several different laser treatments can be applied. By using CO2 fractionated laser or a non-ablative laser technique, the unwanted scar tissues can be faded away. These methods affect different layers of the skin and can be easily combined. Beside there are supplementary treatments too – like using special active agents, radiofrequency tightening or microneedle therapy, in favor of making the process more efficient. Laser therapy is suitable against post-acne scars, accident/injury scars, surgical scar tissue or hypertrophic and keloid scars. Thanks to these processes the natural regeneration mechanism of the skin gets induced while an increased collagen- and elastin production starts. The wounded area recovers and the skin surface becomes more homogenous and even. In the end the designated, scarred area gets smoother, tighter and much more healthier.

SkinPen® Precision

The micro needling or collagen induction treatments are minimal invasive methods, based on the induction of natural skin regeneration: The steps include the stimulation of collagen-, elastin- and hyaluronic acid production which molecules are responsible for the elasticity and tightness of the skin. Therefore the skin becomes visibly smooth, toned and more even after the treatment.

CO2 laser skin rejuvenation and resurfacing

The fractional CO2 laser resurfacing is a non-surgical aesthetic medical treatment. This ablative kind of laser removes the epidermis and heats the underlying, deeper skin layer, while causing pixelated micro-injuries. In this way a targeted and well-regulated collagen- and elastin stimulation happens and an intense regenerating process is getting induced. The general appearance of the skin gets improved and the scars fade away.

Asking for professional help is a necessity in the case of post-acne scarring. Both ablative and non-ablative laser treatments are available in favor of alleviating this unpleasant aesthetic problem. During an ablative laser treatment session, the fractionated laser beam evaporates the injured skin tissue around the scars and stimulates collagen production. The non-ablative method uses a high-energy laser light which causes micro-injuries in the deeper layers of the skin, but this pixelated effect cannot be seen from the surface. The physiological self-healing process starts with the escalation of collagen- and elastin production. In our clinic a well-tailored, customized treatment plan is created for every patient in order to achieve the best possible results. The plan includes information about effective treatment combinations, at-home skincare routine and about how to harmonize the different kinds of treatments.

Laser skin rejuvenation (non-ablative rejuvenation)

The non-ablative skin rejuvenation corrects the skin texture and fades away the disturbing scar tissue without causing any wound. By using a high-energy laser beam, the natural collagen production of the skin gets stimulated.
