Surgical Removal of Skin Lesions
Moles, sebaceous cysts (atheromas), fibromas, warts, and other skin growths can often be cosmetically bothersome and may also cause irritation or inflammation when they come into contact with clothing. Their removal may also be medically necessary, particularly if a lesion grows or changes in colour or shape. Surgical excision of skin lesions offers an effective and definitive treatment option for lesions located on almost any part of the body, including the face, neck, back, chest, and limbs. The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia. Removing unwanted skin lesions can improve the overall appearance of the skin, which may also have a positive impact on your well-being and self-confidence.
About the service
Surgical Removal of Skin Lesions
A Permanent Result with an Aesthetic Finish
The lesion is surgically excised in its entirety, together with a small margin of surrounding tissue, by our specialist according to an individualised treatment plan. Complete excision provides a definitive treatment, and in most cases, the removed lesion does not recur.
The procedure is performed by our experienced specialist with expertise in aesthetic surgery. The incision is made along the skin's natural lines to promote optimal healing and achieve a cosmetically pleasing result with a minimally visible scar.
Histological Examination for Your Safety
Many skin lesions that appear benign can only be reliably distinguished from malignant tumours through histological examination. For this reason, all removed tissue is sent for histological analysis to ensure an accurate diagnosis and provide reassurance regarding the nature of the lesion.
What to Expect During Your Treatment
The diagnosis of skin lesions falls within the scope of a dermatologist, who can distinguish between benign and malignant lesions. If no further investigations are required, the skin will be cleansed, disinfected, and locally anaesthetised before the procedure.
Once the area is numb, our surgeon will excise the lesion together with a margin of healthy tissue and close the wound with a few stitches. Depending on the location of the procedure, stitches are usually removed after 7–14 days. The histological results are also generally communicated at around this time.

Services
-
Lipoma removal

Atheroma removal
An atheroma is a cyst arising from a sebaceous gland, typically presenting as a slowly growing subcutaneous lesion. Over time, it may become inflamed, painful, or recur. The definitive treatment is the complete surgical removal of the cyst capsule. The aim of the procedure is to eliminate inflammation and minimize the risk of recurrence. The excision is performed in an outpatient setting under local anesthesia.

Gentle Superficial Removal of Skin Growths (Shave Biopsy)
A shave biopsy is a quick and minimally invasive procedure used to obtain a tissue sample from raised skin lesions or remove them entirely. Its purpose is to establish an accurate diagnosis through histological examination and rule out the possibility of a malignant lesion. During the procedure, the lesion is carefully shaved off using a thin, sharp instrument held parallel to the skin surface, eliminating the need for a deep incision or stitches. This technique is particularly suitable for examining raised moles, warts, and other skin growths on the face, neck, torso, or limbs.
