Rough and textured skin, large pores

Textured skin and enlarged pores are often associated with increased sebum production and excessive desquamation of skin cells. These can be treated with various cleansing and exfoliating treatments and home care products. Microneedling and laser treatments can further enhance the results.

What leads to textured skin and enlarged pores?

A coarse complexion and large pores can give the skin an uneven appearance. Pores are a natural part of the skin's structure that help the sebaceous glands to allow sebum to freely escape to the skin's surface to moisturize and protect it. The pores have a flexible wall and their minimum size is genetically determined, but they can be permanently dilated in response to certain factors. For example, increased sebum production, which can be temporary, for example due to hormonal effects in the teenage years, or a long-standing predisposition associated with the primary skin type.

The consistency of the sebum can also change, causing difficulties in its release to the surface, stuck in the pores and resulting in blackheads, which can further worsen the appearance of the pores.

In this case, the pore wall becomes weaker and, even when there is no excess sebum production or pore blockage, it cannot fully regain its original condition.

Besides the increased sebum production, the loss of density and elasticity in the skin also affects the appearance of the pores, as the tissue structure becomes more fragile over time, the wall supporting the pores also becomes weaker. These changes are occurring as early as our mid-twenties and can be intensified by external factors such as lifestyle, stress, smoking and UV radiation.

If the natural exfoliation process is slowed down (shedding of the dead skin cells and replacing them with new ones), will result in an uneven, dull complexion.

Inflammation and post-acne damage can further affect the texture and overall appearance of the skin, as they often do not disappear without a trace, leaving visible indentations and discolorations, breaking the uniform appearance of the skin.

Laser rejuvenation (non-ablative rejuvenation)

Non-ablative rejuvenation also helps to improve the overall quality and texture of the skin, as well as tightening the enlarged pores. The treatment, which can be fully customized to the skin condition and problem, uses high-energy laser light to cause micro-injuries in the deeper layers of the skin, triggering a natural regenerative process between tissues, producing collagen and elastin fibers.
