Why do droopy eyelids develop?

The natural aging process of the skin generally starts around the age of 25. Although it is not visible at this age, the first signs appear most commonly on the delicate area around the eyes. The levels of hyaluronic acid, collagen and elastin that our skin naturally produces begin to gradually decline, causing it to lose elasticity, firmness, density and hydration.

The skin around the eye area is extremely thin and has less connective tissue fibers, making it more exposed to environmental factors (e.g. UV radiation) that can significantly accelerate the skin aging process.

Initially, smaller, finer lines appear and then gradually evolve into deeper wrinkles. The skin of the upper eyelids becomes thinner and saggier with age, overhanging the eyelashes, which in more severe cases can even cause a reduction in the field of vision.

Moreover, the sagging of the lower eyelids can lead to the development of hollows and under eye bags, giving the face a tired appearance.

We cannot avoid the aging process of the skin, but with conscious skin care, a good lifestyle and seeking professional help on time, we can postpone or even remove the first signs of aging and overall, slow down the process significantly. There are a number of very effective medical aesthetic and surgical solutions to treat sagging eyelids.

What can we do about drooping eyelids?

CO2 laser peels (ablative skin resurfacing)

Fractionated carbon dioxide laser can be used effectively to treat sagging eyelids. During the procedure, the laser makes pixel-like micro-injuries in the treated area, triggering a powerful skin regeneration process that works both on the surface and in the deeper layers as well, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin fibers that give the skin its firmness and elasticity. The overall appearance of the skin is improved and a firmer appearance is established.

Brow lift and other corrections

An effective treatment for minor eyelid drooping is the Botox Brow Lift, which affects the mechanism of the muscle responsible for the movement of the outer part of the brows, lifting the area, opening up the eyes for a fresher, more youthful appearance. The treatment can improve preliminary sagging of the upper eyelids.

Sagging eyelids can also be improved significantly with thread lift. The threads used in the procedure are made of a special material that enhances collagen production, stimulating the natural renewal of the skin. The method provides an excellent lifting effect and increases the skin's metabolism and lymphatic circulation. This results in a prolonged skin tightening effect, because even after the threads have been absorbed, the rejuvenated connective tissues that have been stimulated remain.

Eyelid surgery

Blepharoplasty provides the most dramatic results possible in a very short time if you are open to a surgical solution with very fast recovery. The plastic surgery can be used for both upper and lower eyelid problems. Blepharoplasty for the upper lid involves the removal of excess skin to open up the eye area. The skin is tightened, giving a youthful appearance. In case of lower eyelid surgery, where puffiness has been accompanied with under eye bags, the removal of the accumulated fat and excess sagging skin can be the answer to this disturbing aesthetic problem.
