Series of keloid scar treatment

The development of stiff and often painful, tight keloid scars due to scar tissue healing disorders cannot be improved with superficial treatments, creams or silicone sheets. Due to their formation on the skin above the bone on tense areas, or on the shoulder and chest area, surgery is also not recommended either, because there is a chance that the excised tissue will only heal with an even larger keloid scar.

However, even the most extensive scars can be significantly reduced and faded with a course of steroid injection treatment.

In keloid scar treatment, a special medication is injected into the scar through tiny needle punctures, which softens the stretching keloid, smoothes the skin surface, makes the scar look faded and stops the itching caused by the tension.

With each session of the scar treatment, the thickness and shade of the keloid scar is immediately and noticeably reduced and the scar becomes more and more blended into the skin line.

The fading of a prominent scar will restore your old confidence and self-esteem, giving you a more balanced appearance, which is good for your overall well-being.

Pain-free scar correction

If required, keloid scar treatment is performed under local anaesthesia, so the procedure is painless, but depending on individual sensitivity, there may be some discomfort or tightness.

Personalized treatment plan

All keloid scar treatment is performed according to a personalized treatment plan, which includes the amount of medication to be used, the location and amount of punctures and the number of repetitions required to achieve the expected result.

Procedure

Steroid injection keloid scar treatment can also be performed under local anesthesia. The skin around the scar is cleaned, disinfected thoroughly and, if necessary, locally anesthetized. Our specialist will inject the medication into the scar using small, fine needle pricks, as specified in the treatment plan, and lastly apply a soothing ointment to the treated area.

Keloid scar treatment is given as a course of treatment, with breaks of 4-6 weeks between treatments.

Frequently Asked Questions

We recommend it for those who:

  • want to fade keloid scars caused by skin damage or inflammation
  • to soften a thick, irregular and stiff scar
  • soften a painful keloid scar that is regularly stretched and itchy
  • want a more aesthetically pleasing appearance due to a prominent red or purplish scar.

Steroid injection for keloid scar is performed by using the prescription medication (triamcinolone acetonide), which is part of the corticosteroid range. The amount of drug injected can be individually controlled according to the desired result. This will be clearly recorded in the treatment plan, together with the puncture points, and the scar treatment will be carried out accordingly. The treatment can be repeated indefinitely and safely.

The active ingredient triamcinolone acetonide reduces the amount of abnormal collagen fibres in the scar and slows down cell metabolism. This causes the stiff, hard scar to soften and become more integrated into the skin.

Keloid scar treatment is performed in 2-3 sessions, which are determined by the initial condition of the keloid scar, the desired result and the skin's response to the treatments. A break of 4-6 weeks is recommended between each treatment.

The keloid scar treatment takes about 30 minutes per session.

In the days before the keloid scar treatment, it is recommended to stop using skin care products containing active ingredients (retinol, exfoliating/acidic products, etc.), as they may cause skin irritation at the site of the procedure. Alcoholic beverages should be avoided.

Itching and redness of the scar may occur for the first 2-3 days after the treatment, but this will gradually disappear. The effects of keloid scar treatment are more visible each time. The original scar will remain, but the surface will become softer, smoother and fainter. The final result takes 6-12 months to develop.

We cannot perform keloid scar treatment in cases of pregnancy, breastfeeding or febrile illness, allergies to triamcinolone acetonide and active skin disease.
