Male breast reduction
Chest reduction with safe and advanced intervention for men.
NextReduction surgery for greater confidence
Breast surgery is not only popular among women, men also want to look their best. Although it's less common, many men struggle with self-esteem issues and anxiety about feeling that their chest is too big and feminine looking, which can't be helped even with a specific exercise plan.
Enlarged breasts can be caused by increased levels of female hormones (estrogen) and low levels of testosterone, hormonal changes during puberty, taking hormone-containing drugs such as bodybuilding supplements and muscle-building steroids, and also obesity. In rare cases, a more serious disease such as cirrhosis of the liver may cause these changes.
In such cases, the glands in the chest become enlarged or fatty tissues develop as a result of the extra pounds, causing the breasts to take on a bigger, more feminine appearance. The problem is most often symmetrical and bilateral, but rarely it can be one-sided.
Gynecomastia is a breast reduction procedure in which our plastic surgeon removes excess tissue, restoring the correct proportions and firmness to the male chest.
Male breast reduction is a solution for those who want to get rid of feminine breasts and regain their masculine appearance and confidence.
Safety and expertise
Our clinic uses the most modern surgical techniques combined with the professionalism of our experienced plastic surgeons.
Personalized treatment
Male breast reduction surgery is preceded by careful planning to ensure the best results for you.
Procedure
During the initial consultation, our plastic surgeon will assess the current condition of the chest, your expectations and give you detailed information about possible surgical techniques, where the scars will be located and the results you can expect from the operation. A detailed surgical plan will then be prepared.
Before the operation, some mandatory tests are necessary: laboratory tests, ECG, chest ultrasound are essential in all cases. Some illnesses and medications may also justify additional tests.
Male breast reduction surgery is performed under general anesthesia and takes 1 to 1.5 hours. It requires a one-day stay in our clinic.
During the procedure, our plastic surgeon will first make an incision around the nipple area. In some cases, it may be necessary to make a T-shaped incision that runs vertically down from the nipple towards the breast groove and ends horizontally below the fold.
Our specialist then removes the fatty tissues and part of the glandular mass and, if appropriate, excess skin as well. In some cases, liposuction is also performed in the area.
The wound surfaces and skin incisions are closed with absorbable sutures, so there is no need for suture removal later.

Male breast reduction is recommended for men who:
- feel like that their breasts are too feminine or too large,
- had an extreme weight loss, and as a consequence their chest became saggy.
Regular medication can be taken before the procedure, but it is essential to consult your plastic surgeon about any anti-coagulant medication (e.g. aspirin). Alcohol and smoking should be avoided during the pre- and post-operative period as they may impair the body's ability to heal properly.
You may experience mild pain for a few days after the operation. These can be well managed with over-the-counter painkillers. There may also be bruising and swelling, which will disappear on their own within a few weeks.
For visible scars you should expect a recovery time of about 6 months, while for internal scars it is about 2 years. It is recommended to support recovery by applying scar repair creams. In addition, drinking plenty of water, resting and using skin regenerating products recommended by the treating doctor can help the healing process.
It is a safe surgery with minimal risks, but as with any procedure, complications can occur.
These include:
- post-operative bleeding, inflammation, infection
- keloid, hypertrophic or atrophic scarring
- inflammation of the surgical scar
- loss of sensation, numbness, tingling,
- uneven skin, skin laxity
- nipple hypopigmentation, nipple necrosis
Wearing a special compression vest for 8 weeks. No sports or physical activity is allowed for two weeks after the operation, after which you can gradually return to your normal routine. Light exercise is possible after about 4 weeks. The wound should not be exposed to direct UV exposure, so avoid tanning or solarium use as this can have a negative effect on scarring. Sauna is also not recommended.
