Ingrown hair
Traditional hair removal methods, such as shaving, waxing and epilation, in addition to requiring frequent repetition, often lead to ingrown hairs due to improper preparation, which can lead to folliculitis. Laser hair removal treats the problem at the root, eliminating the growth itself.
NextWhat causes ingrown hair?
Ingrown hair not only causing an aesthetic problem, but often cause a disturbing, painful experience. Traditional hair removal methods like shaving, waxing and epilating can be easily accompanied by this condition.
The main underlying reason is the thickening of the stratum corneum (the outermost layer of the skin). After the dead epithelial cells need to be removed regularly and properly, unless the growing hair cannot come up to the skin surface and get stuck under. As a consequence folliculitis can develop.
In many cases ingrown hair is caused by an incorrect hair removal technique, e.g. shaving against the hairsgrowth’s natural direction.
Having ingrown hair is a frequent, recurrent condition among women and men. For women, the most common places of occurrence are the legs, pubic area and armpits. In most cases men have it on their cheeks, chin, around their beard and even on the scalp.
It’s possible to minimize the risk of ingrown hair if you care about skin softening and apply a comprehensive, proper skincare routine regularly according to your features. Beside that you need to use body scrubs and peelers frequently and acquire correct hair removal techniques.
These things unfortunately cannot provide a complete, 100% solution for ingrown hair and folliculitis. Because the affected areas are the hairy skin parts, the only permanent treatment is granted by laser hair removal.
What can we do to prevent ingrown hair?
Permanent laser hair removal
Our professional aestheticians use the extremely effective combination of DEKA Again Alexandrite and Nd:YAG lasers which is considered to be the gold standard of medical laser technology. The method can be used on the whole body, including the facial skin and either the pubic area. With this unique, flexible dual-wavelength system we can perform the treatment with impressive precision to maximize efficacy in dermatological application. The cumulative laser emission allows to deliver an amount of energy at lower power pulses that leads to hair destruction in deep skin layers with greater efficiency and safety than conventional methods. It's ideal for all phototypes from Fitzpatrick 1-5, including thick dark hair and fair or light hair also while decreasing the risk of ingrown hair and folliculitis.
It’s important to know that the laser is only effective on hairs in the anagen (growth) phase. That’s why for a comprehensive, long-lasting result 6-9 sessions are needed. Following this first stage of the treatment it’s suggested to repeat the process 1-3 times annually.
