Facelift
A permanent and effective solution to tighten sagging skin with advanced plastic surgery methods.
NextRestore tightness, firmness and youthful contours
The passing of time leaves its most visible mark on our skin. As early as our mid-twenties, the amount of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid in the skin - which make our skin firm and smooth - starts to decrease. The skin on the face becomes thinner, less elastic, more fragile and saggy. Over time, the elastic fibers stretch out which causes the facial skin to sag. After a significant weight loss, the overstretched skin cannot bounce back to its original state causing the excess, loose skin to also sag. Wrinkles and fine lines develop on the face and neck, which become deeper with age, giving a tired, dull appearance.
Who is affected, when and to what extent, depends on genetic factors as well as lifestyle factors and environmental influences. After a while, cosmetic and medical aesthetic treatments are no longer sufficient and only plastic surgery can provide the desired, long-lasting results.
A facelift is an excellent solution for restoring firmness and removing excess skin, giving back the face's youthful appearance and also a refreshed, vibrant glow, which ultimately gives you confidence and increased self-esteem.
The following facial plastic surgery procedures are available at our clinic:
- Classic facelift
- Mini facelift
- SMAS (Sub-muscular Aponeurotic System) Lift
- MACS (Minimal Access Cranial Suspension) Lift
Classic Facelift
In a classic facelift, we perform a neck lift and a midface lift. Our plastic surgeon makes incisions along the scalp line, from the temples to the front of the ears, until the hair is covering. The facial skin is pulled back along the incision, smoothing out any wrinkles that have formed. During the operation, excess, flabby skin is removed, giving the face contour and firmness. The big advantage of the surgery is that the character of the face is not changed. The procedure usually provides 4-5 years of results.Mini Facelift
A mini facelift is recommended when the sagging of the face and neck is minimal, and signs of ageing are mainly affecting the jawline or the nasolabial folds. A mini facelift is a shorter procedure with fewer scars and a faster recovery time than a classic facelift.SMAS Lift
The SMAS facelift affects the muscles and soft tissues closer to the ear where the incisions are made. The layer of muscle and connective tissue that is lifted during the facelift is also secured to the face by four deep bands. The surgery is more permanent than a classic facelift, with results lasting more than 5 years.MACS Lift
The MACS facelift is a modern surgical procedure for facial rejuvenation. The "minimal incision" solution provides long-lasting results with minimal scarring and a fast recovery time. During the surgery, incisions start just below the earlobe and continue in the natural crease in front of the ear, ending in the scalp. Following this optimal direction of tension, the facial skin becomes firmer.A striking, lasting solution personalized to your needs
Plastic surgery can permanently fix the sagging of the skin, even if other medical aesthetic or cosmetic treatments have failed to help.
A facelift is carefully planned beforehand to ensure the best and most natural result for you.
Invisible scars, immediate results
During a facelift, our plastic surgeon makes incisions in the area of the scalp that is covered by hair, leaving no visible scars after healing.
The results of a facelift are immediately visible, but the final look takes a few weeks to develop once the bruising and swelling from the surgery has disappeared.
Procedure
During the initial consultation, our plastic surgeon will examine your current facial condition and provide detailed information about the surgical options he recommends and the expected results of the procedure. Depending on the patient's age, skin condition, depth of wrinkles and individual needs, he will either recommend a mini or a full facelift.
A detailed surgical plan will be prepared, followed by some mandatory tests. Laboratory results are essential in all cases, but certain medical conditions, medication and previous plastic surgery may justify additional tests.
The 3-4 hour plastic surgery is performed under general anesthesia by our experienced surgeon and requires a one-day stay.
For a mini facelift, our specialist will make incisions in front of the ear and at the temporal region to correct sagging soft tissues and restore drooping mimic muscles to their original position.
During a full facelift, incisions are made in front of the ear, behind the ear and on the sides of the scalp. This is followed by repositioning and fixing of the facial muscles and removal of excess and sagging skin.
During the surgery, our specialist will close the incisions with absorbable sutures in all cases, so there is no need for suture removal afterwards.

A facelift is recommended for those who have:
- sagging skin that has lost its elasticity
- creases appearing between the nose and the mouth (nasolabial folds)
- prominent lines between the corners of the mouth and the chin (marionette lines)
- double chin
- drooping of the jaw and chin
- sagging or loose skin on the neck
Regular medication can be taken prior to the procedure, but it is essential to consult your plastic surgeon if you are taking anticoagulant medication (e.g. aspirin). Recovery after the procedure can be improved by drinking plenty of water, taking enough rest and using skin-regenerating products recommended by the surgeon.
Visible scars take about 6 months to heal and subcutaneous scars about 2 years.
Antibiotics and painkillers are recommended after the procedure. Swelling and bruising can develop in the surgical area, which is completely normal and will disappear in about two weeks after the operation. A special postoperative bandage will need to be worn for 14 days after the operation. During the first two weeks, you should avoid excessive physical activity but then gradually you can return to your previous lifestyle. After three weeks, light exercise is allowed. It is also important to avoid direct exposure to UV light for 1 month, so avoid sunbathing and solarium. Furthermore, cosmetic treatments should be avoided during this period.
A facelift is a safe surgery with minimal risks, but as with any procedure, complications can occur.
These include:
- postoperative bleeding, inflammation, infection
- damage to the nerve that moves the mimic muscles
- temporary or permanent loss of sensation in certain areas of the skin in case of damage to sensory nerve fibers
- keloid, hypertrophic or atrophic scarring
- inflammation of a surgical scar
