An easy solution

The shape, size and contour of the calves are mainly determined by our genetics, which is why we are often not satisfied with our legs and unfortunately even with long and persistent training we cannot achieve the shape we desire. In many cases, however, the main motivation may not be the pursuit of perfection, since the unevenness, asymmetry and shape of the calf may be caused by some genetic factor, deformity, congenital anomaly, injury or accident.

Calf augmentation surgery can make a significant difference to the calf: implants can eliminate the problem of a thin, formless or asymmetrical calf.

Calf deformities can be corrected with calf augmentation. Book a consultation with our plastic surgeon to design your personalized treatment plan!

Plastic surgery involves the insertion of implants into the calves to create the ideal muscle-like shape and form. Calf augmentation is a permanent solution, and the implants are placed to provide a lasting result, as they do not need to be replaced over the years.

Your doctor will decide which is the ideal choice for you based on your consultation.

Two types of implants to choose from

During the initial consultation with your plastic surgeon, a personalized treatment plan will be created, including the implants' shape that best suits you and your overall figure.

Implants are available in two sizes and shapes:

  • anatomical shape (usually recommended for men),
  • spindle-shaped (most often recommended for women).

Procedure

The first step is a personal consultation, during which we will create your individual treatment plan, look at the results you can expect after the surgery and thoroughly discuss the procedure, risks and aftercare. You'll then have a full check-up: we'll do a lab test, ECG and X-ray to make sure you're ready for a surgery.

On the day of surgery, we will prepare you for the procedure, which will take approximately 1 hour and will be performed under general anesthesia. During the procedure, the plastic surgeon will make an incision of about 4 cm in the knee joint and then insert the implant over the muscle. During the procedure, we take great care to ensure that the implants are symmetrical in both legs and that the final result looks completely natural.

After the wounds are closed, a compression bandage is placed on the calves to secure the implants and reduce the possibility of any complications. You will spend 1 night in the clinic after the surgery, after which you will be discharged home.

Frequently Asked Questions

Calf augmentation is performed for aesthetic or reconstructive reasons.

It is recommended when:

  • you feel your calves are too thin and you want to correct their shape and size,
  • you want to change asymmetry or deformity due to a congenital anomaly, accident or injury.

The result of the calf augmentation is final after about 6-8 months, but you can see the change in the shape of the calf in the weeks after the operation.

Before calf augmentation, you should stop using nicotine-containing products and smoking, because nicotine has a negative effect on the healing process. The use of anticoagulants, herbal remedies, vitamin C, selenium, zinc and ginkgo biloba should be stopped a few days before the operation. It is also advisable to drink enough water to ensure that the body is sufficiently hydrated and prepared for the procedure.

In the first 2-3 weeks after the operation, the implant may cause a slight tightness in the calf area, but this will disappear with time. At the end of the operation, we will put a compression bandage on your leg to help prevent complications.

You can usually return to work after 2 weeks.

  • You will need plenty of rest in the weeks after the operation, and you must avoid overloading/overworking your legs.
  • Keep your calves dry for 1 week and avoid climbing stairs during this time.
  • During the recovery period, smoking, using nicotine-containing products and drinking alcohol are not recommended.
  • In the weeks following the surgery, make sure you drink enough water to help your body recover.
  • For 2 weeks, you should not do any demanding physical work, walking, exercise, bending or lifting.
  • After 3 weeks, you can exercise, but only gradually increase the intensity of your workouts.
  • You should wear the compression bandages for 4-6 weeks.
  • It is not recommended to use solariums, saunas or sunbathing at all for 2 months.

Surgery is not recommended during pregnancy, breastfeeding, menstruation, febrile illness or acute illness. In addition, in the case of diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease and organ abnormalities, a separate consultation with a specialist is required before surgery.
